USA makes a strong showing at the BPT Challenge Haikou
In a display of American dominance, Miles Evans and Chase Budinger clinched gold, while Trevor Crabb and Theo Brunner secured silver at the Beach Pro Tour Challenge event in Haikou, China.
Evans and Budinger showcased their prowess, sealing victory in two sets with a commanding 21-14, 23-21 win in the final, reaffirming their status atop the men’s podium for the U.S.
For Evans and Budinger, this triumph marked a return to the spotlight after their last medal at the 2023 BPT Challenge Saquarema, where they claimed silver. On the other hand, Crabb and Brunner last medaled at the 2023 BPT Challenge Espinho, clinching gold.
The path to victory was no easy feat, as Evans and Budinger navigated through a field of strong American contenders to claim the gold. Alongside Crabb and Brunner, U.S. teams Chaim Schalk/Tri Bourne and Tim Brewster/Kyle Friend showcased their talent, with three of the four teams reaching the semifinals.
Evans and Budinger displayed their mettle with hard-fought wins in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, setting up a semifinal clash against Bourne/Schalk, which they won convincingly 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) to secure their spot in the gold medal match.
Meanwhile, Crabb and Brunner emerged victorious against tough opponents, defeating Schacter/Dearing (CAN) and Hodges/Schubert (AUS) in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, to set up a thrilling showdown with Evans and Budinger.
In the bronze medal match, Bourne/Schalk faced Hodges/Schubert, ultimately finishing fourth after a hard-fought battle. Brewster/Friend, unfortunately, fell short in the round of 16 to Schacter/Dearing, ending their campaign tied for 9th place.
